Happy New Year!

A brand new year 2007! It was just Wayne and I as Kassidy spent her NYE in Connecticut with Aunt Lizzy. She went up on 12/27 and came back on 1/2. Our first New Year's without her. On New Year's Day we took down all the decorations, inside and out, tree included. We had cooked pork and sauerkraut all night and the house smelled delicious. Mom and Megan and Robbie joined us for the "good luck in the new year" dinner. My husband was quite pleased that Penn State won there bowl game. I know Daddy was up there cursing the lads.

On Wed 1/3 Wayne called me at work to say that he had been let go from Geos, and that they could not afford his salary anymore. He went to unemployment right away and filed and the paperwork came today - Friday. It seems to be a blessing in disguise, as Mike True has basically had a grudge against Wayne during his whole 10 years there. I took off on Thursday and updated his resume, sent a few out, including one to Charlie Gipe, Chef over all Hershey Foods venues. I made sure that his 401k is in check and contacted a few online job sites. We are getting a lot of support from friends and family and lots of people have called from the restaurant threatening to quit because they can't bear to work with Mike's nephew Larry.

More sad news - Neko, our oldest cat is not doing very well. He turned 14 this year and for the last couple weeks we have had to carry him up the stairs to eat his supper. He lays downstairs in one spot, not doing much more than sleeping. I weighed him the other day and he is about 7 pounds. Kelsey, I know he was your favorite and this picture is for you. Wayne thinks we shouldn't take him to the vet, but to let him be comfortable at home. I think he may only have a few more days. This is so hard because we got Neko before we moved into our house and I just finished the book Marley and Me, and the pain is very real. Our pets are kind of like our children in lots of ways. We sure will miss him when he goes.
I hope to write more often. There is just so much going on in everyone's lives. We need to take time out for the little things.

Sorry to hear about Neko...but he did have a good long life, and you can be greatful for that.

I will continue my boycott of Geo's restaurant...I haven't eaten there since they screwed Wayne over Daddy's funeral. Now there's no reason at all to give it another try. It is good that he's getting out of there, I'm sure he'll be able to find a much better position where he's more appreciated.
